Event organizers using external registration systems often rely on those systems as the source of truth for participant data. However, when updates flow into Grip through integrations, organizers want more control over which profile fields participants can edit. In some cases, participants change their names to game the system and appear higher in lists, which organizers want to prevent. At the same time, event organizers need the flexibility to allow certain fields, like profile images, to be edited directly within Grip.
A simple toggle will still allow organizers to disable all profile editing when needed, but when editing is enabled, organizers can choose which fields are editable. All default fields, such as email and profile image, will be added to the list to give full control.
Why does this matter?
More control for organizers
Right now, organizers use the profile editing lock, which blocks participants from making any updates in Grip. While this stops unwanted changes, it also prevents them from adding onboarding questions in Grip, and some fields may never get updated, such as profile images. This creates gaps in participant data and a less personalized event experience.
Tailored participant experience
Granular control over profile fields solves these issues by allowing organizers to decide which fields are editable. Participants can update relevant data—like profile images—while restricted fields, such as names, remain protected from manipulation. This ensures a more controlled and accurate participant experience, while also providing the flexibility organizers need.
What you’re going to love about it?
With Granular Profile Edit Control, you’ll have the ability to selectively enable or disable editing for individual fields, giving you the flexibility to manage participant data more effectively. You’ll also still have the convenience of locking the entire profile if needed, while maintaining control over default and custom fields. Whether you’re preventing participants from changing key information or allowing them to personalize their profile images, you now have the control to tailor the experience to your event’s needs.
